Maryland Urban Exploration

...Urban Exploration. I live in Washington, DC which is an area that should be ripe with UE possibilities, and the idea greatly appeals to me, but I really have no idea where to go, or how to get started. Does anyone know of good areas to go to, any groups that I could contact, or any resources I could use to try to get started?

Sorry for the newbie post. Feel free to delete this post if it's inappropiate.

Well, I've mixed a lot of nature stuff in here cause I'm bent that way but here are some suggestions:

the Smithsonian Associates,

the Friends of the National Zoo,

The Friends of the National Arboretum,

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Please don't take this as ingratitude, but I have to admit to being a little confused. I love nature hiking, but isn't -Urban- exploration supposed to be about the "non-natural" bits?

No,no...you're correct I think...I just went overboard with the cool things that I think would be fun. I'm not good at staying "on topic".

just get in your car and drive for a few hours in a direction youve never been...and make sure you take the back roads

and do lots of google searches with keywords of you you are interested in (ie "abandoned" and "powerplant" or "hospital" or "school" and "maryland" then get a address and go check it out

just go out and do it. its a hobby that involves travel and action, alot of people dont seem to get that and try to do it via the internet (they are called armchair explorers) just go out and have fun, wear study clothes, bring a flashlight and one friend and a respirator if you want to be safe and go to it
